Description

This is a project I followed during my period studying in Naba, this project consist in the reinterpretation of the Panoramic Accellerator, an artistic structure realized by the dutch Artist Marnix de Nijs.

The Panoramic Accellerator consist in a chair over a motor with a projection screen in front of you, the structure rotates, both clockwise and ccw, moving together both the chair and the screen.

The project that Otolab team wanted to realize was something that completely synthetize audio and video based on the rotation speed, the movement, and the moment the exhibit has been tested.

The motor used in the panoramic accellerator was provided by an encoder, so for me was easy to get direction and speed, then I interfaced everything with Arduino and MaxMsp, for the audio I created a system that convert some parameters in to midi signals, after that I used Ableton Live for creating a virtual syntetizer that creates the tones wonted from the Otolab team.
Then the video part is completely made inside MaxMsp, I generated procedural 3D shape, using as variables the signals that I have from the input of the P.A (Speed Velocity, Direction, Accelleration, ecc).

This was a completely artistic project, I really didn't understand the full puprose of what the guys from Otolab wanted to create, but the result was great, the cool thing is that when you rotate ath high speed it generates a strange sense of immersivity and freedom, isolating yourself completely from the real world.
