HTC Vive Full Body Mocap
Description
Bigrock
July 10, 2017
This was a cool project that I supervised in my period working as a Teacher in Bigrock.
This project was an extremization of the HTC Vive tracking system, here I worked with a member of the Bigrock's Red Team of that period Saverio Trapasso we were experimenting on creating IK's system in Unity and we had this idea, at that period the Vive Tracker's werent available yet, so we used a huge amount of Vive Controllers (6).
We used Unity to sample the movement, we had created a full body IK system in C#, the system recognizes the height of the person via the head position and it adapts all the points and automatically creates an humanoid rig moved by the positions of the controllers, we created using 3D Printing some controller's supports specifically for all the body parts that we needed to track.
At this point we can track the full body of the person in VR, then we started working on an exporter that creates directly a Maya file with all the animation sequence in it.
At the end we worked in Maya and we created a Python script to easily retarget all animations to the final Character.
In this project I worked mainly as Technical Supervisor and Unity Developer.
