Runes The Forgotten Path

Description

“Runes The Forgotten Path” is a cool project created from scratch by Stormborn studio.

In this project I worked as a Technical Supervisor, it was my first project with the Steam VR.

By crafting the project from scratch and by bringing the concept to life, we gained the opportunity to work with the beta version of the HTC Vive, in fact neither the Oculus Rift was released yet at that time, when we started working on Runes. The only closest experience that we had before this, was the DK2 version of the Oculus.

In the beginning we had to push hard to develop a working pipeline for this new game-changing device, which was, with its room-scale positional tracking, something incredible at the beginning of 2015.

The initial team working on the project was composed by the BigRock MasterVR I students. The team worked on the assets of the first demo, later on, only one of the assets was selected for the commercial demo, which was the initial cave, but at the same time the team developed 3 VR ready environments and their interactions as well.

Personally, I supervised the interaction part created from the MasterVR team, which included particle systems, physics behaviours, Enemy AI, Pathfinding. Meanwhile, I had to put my hands in to something else, so I worked together with the Stormborn team developing the main character spells. I developed the main Shader used in the game (a Tessellation based shader with similar specs as the Unity Standard Shader, and yes, at that time it was a very difficult thing to do...) and I also developed the Main menu system, which is the stone based one that you can see in the second video.

I took part in the Demo development for this project and I sadly couldn’t be part of the final development team because I preferred to continue teaching classes at BigRock’s Master VR. So far, the entire project is under development and the release date isn't confirmed yet.
